Plate Local Axis

Local axis of plate/plane strain/plane stress/axisymmetric can be aligned along with global axis or cylindrical axis (±X, ±Y, ±Z, ±R, ±TH) for checking results. This function is useful for unstructured meshes or cylindrical structure. The user can directly specify the reference vector for the local axis direction of plate elements. This function does not affect pre-processing data.

Following results will be updated based on the aligned axis:

Results > Forces > Plate Forces/Moments

Results > Stresses > Plane-Stress/Plate Stresses

Results > Stresses > Plane Strain Stresses

Results > Stresses > Axisymmetric Stresses

From the Main Menu select Results > Detail > Plate Local Axis.

 Element Type

Select the element type to align local axis among Plate, Plane strain, Plane stress and Axisymmetric.

 Local Axis

Select the reference local axis to be aligned between local x and y-axis.

 Direction

Local Axis:

Coordinate Dir.: Align the element local axis to the global axis(+X, +Y, +Z, -X, -Y and -Z) or cylindrical axis(+R, +TH, -R, -TH).

Original Point: When cylindrical axis is selected, original point of cylindrical axis can be specified.

Ref. Vector: Align the element local axis to the specified vector. If the reference vector does not lie on the element x-y plane, projected vector to the element x-y plane will be applied.

Note.

In order to verify the rotated local axis, display element local axis in the post-processing mode. It can be displayed from the main menu, View > Display > Display > Element tab > Local Axis. If Plate Local Axis option is applied, local
