Beam Section Data for Checking

Enter the section dimensions, exposure condition and rebar data for reinforced concrete beam members to check for strength and section cracking.

From the Main Menu select Design > RC Design > Beam Section Data for Checking.

First, select the members in the model and enter the following data:

Section List

Select the beam sections for strength check.

ID: Section numbers for which strength check will be carried out

NAME: Section Names for which strength check will be carried out

i-Node: When the section dimensions and rebar data are entered for node i of the beam members being considered for strength check, "O" will appear.

middle: When the section dimensions and rebar data are entered for the middle of the beam members being considered for strength check, "0" will appear.

j-Node: When the section dimensions and rebar data are entered for node j of the beam members being considered for strength check, "O"  will appear.

Click to modify the sectional shape and dimensions and display the Section for Design dialog box (refer to "Section for Design").

Section Data (refer to Note 1)

Display the section data for the beam members.

Shape: Sectional shape of the members

Hc: Height of the section

Bc: Width of the section

bf: Width of the T-section's flange

hf: Thickness of the T-section's flange

Crack checking

Select an environment condition for checking the crack requirement.

Moderate

Severe

Buried

Culverts

i-Node, middle, j-Node

Enter the reinforcing data at each position of the beam section for strength check.

AsTop: Display the top reinforcement determined from Beam Section for Design.

AsBot: Display the bottom reinforcement determined from Beam Section for Design.

Rebar Data
Enter the top and bottom reinforcing steel bar data

Top
Enter the top rebar data.

Layer: Number of layers of rebars

Number: Number of rebars

Size: Rebar size

Dc: Cover distance from the top surface to the center of the main top reinforcing steel (refer to Note 2)

Bottom
Enter the bottom rebar data.

Layer: Number of layers of rebars

Number: Number of rebars

Size: Rebar size

Note
Software permits the use of two sizes of rebar for each position in each layer, i.e. Rebars with two different diameter can be provided at a single position in a single layer. Both the rebars are provided equally in number. Lets say we have 4 number of rebars in position 1 with Size 1 as P10 and Size 2 as P8, then 2-P10 and 2-P8 will be provided in that particular layer. Likewise the rebars are decided for the other position as well. If we have odd number of rebars say 3, then 2-P10 (Size 1) and 1-P8 (Size 2) will be provided.

Dc: Cover distance from the bottom surface to the center of the main bottom reinforcing steel (refer to Note 2)

Stirrups

Enter the shear reinforcing steel data.

Size: Size of shear reinforcing steel

Spacing: Spacing of stirrup bars

Number: Number of shear reinforcing steel

: Display the reinforcing placement data in a diagram.

: : Add the newly entered rebar data of the selected section or update the previously entered data.

:Delete the entered rebar data of the selected section.

:Do not apply the entered data and close the dialog box

Note 1
The dimensions entered for the analysis model determine the height (Hc) and width (Bc) of the rectangular section (Shape = Rectangle). In such a case, the sectional shape of the beam members defined in the analysis model must be rectangular. The sectional values (Hc, Bc, bf, hf) entered in the analysis model are applied to T-sections (Shape = Tee). In such a case, the sectional shape of the beam members entered in the analysis model must be a T-shape. Use "Section for Design" to modify the sectional shape or the dimensions (refer to "Section for Design").

Call
From the Main Menu select Design > Section for Design

Note 2
Enter the cover dimensions of the main rebars placed in the outer layers of the beam members. When the covers are not specified, (Dt = 0, Db = 0), strength check  will not proceed.

Note 3
Rebar data at only one section among the locations of i-Node, Middle and j-Node may be entered. If there are no rebar data, the strength will not be verified.

When rebar data are entered for only one of the i-Node, j-Node and Middle locations: The rebar data will be applied to all the locations for strength verification.

When rebar data are entered for i-Node and j-Node: The i-Node rebar data will be used for the Middle for strength verification.

When rebar data are entered for i-Node and Middle: The i-Node rebar data will be used for j-Node for strength verification.

When rebar data are entered for Middle and j-Node: The j-Node rebar data will be used for i-Node for strength verification.

Note 4
When the rebar data are repeatedly entered for the same section, the values will be updated to the last values entered.
