Design Material

Use this function to modify a part of the steel, concrete and rebar material property data entered during the creation of the analysis model or to change the entered material property data suitable for design.

From the Main Menu select Rating > Steel Bridge > Design Material

The following dialog box is used to enter the data:

Material List

Display the steel, concrete and rebar material properties entered during the creation of the analysis model. Select the material property to be modified or changed with the mouse.

The material assigned to the element for the design must be SRC. SRC material can be defined as the type of material while defining the material properties.

Steel Material Selection

Display the selected steel material so that the material data can be modified or changed.

The steel material data can be changed by using the steel material database built-in the program or by directly entering the data.

Hybrid Factor (Rh): Hybrid factor is calculated only when AASHTO-LRFD code is selected. Check the box before Hybrid Factor when the steel section is not a rolled shape section or homogenous built-up section or when the strengths of steel in the web and the flange are different.

Click on , if the Hybrid Factor is selected. (Refer to Note 3)

Using the steel material database

Select the design code and the material name with the mouse.

The steel rebar and the concrete standards are identically displayed and can be changed by the user if necessary. In other words, the standards for the steel rebar and the concrete do not necessarily have to be the same.

Direct entry by the user

Select "None" in the Code field and enter the name of the material property in the Grade field. Then, each field is activated so that the following material property data can be entered:

Modulus of Elasticity (Es): Modulus of elasticity of steel

Tensile Strength (Fu): Tensile strength of steel

Yield Strength (Fy1 and Fy1): Yield strength of steel for different plate thickness as defined in the code EN1994-2:2005. The Fy for the plates with thickness lesser than 40 millimeters is recommended to be 355 N/mm2 and for plates with thickness greater than 40 mm is recommended to be 335 N/mm2.

Concrete Material Selection

Display the selected concrete material so that the material data can be modified or changed.

The concrete material data can be changed by using the concrete material database built-in the program or by directly entering the data.

Using concrete material database

Select the design code and the material name with the mouse.

The steel rebar and the concrete standards are identically displayed and can be changed by the user if necessary. In other words, the standards for the steel rebar and the concrete do not necessarily have to be the same.

Direct entry by the user

Select 'None' in the Code field and enter the name of the material property in the Grade field. Then, each field is activated so that the following material property data can be entered:

Specified Compressive Strength (fc' / fck / R): Design compressive strength of concrete

If "None" is selected in the Code field, user defined materials are used for design.

 Reinforcement Selection

Code: Select standard for rebar

Grade of Main Rebar: Grade of main rebars

Fyr: Yield strength of main rebars

Grade of Sub-Rebar: Grade of sub-rebars (shear rebars)

Fys: Yield strength sub-rebars (shear rebars)

: Update the previously defined material data.

: Do not enter the selection and close the dialog box.

Note 1
Material property data defined in Composite Plate Girder Design> Design Material are applied only to Composite Plate Girder Design.

Note 2
When material data are defined as per BS or Chinese Standards, Cubic compressive strength is used as opposed to Cylinder strength.

Note 3
When Hybrid Factor option is checked, steel material for the design is inputted separately for the top flange, bottom flange and the web.
