Heat Transfer Analysis: Convection Boundary

Function

Define the boundary condition of heat transfer by convection from the surface of the structure.

Call

<Convection Boundary>

BC Set

Select a BC Set in which the specified BC will be added.
Click to prompt the Define BC Set dialog box to add, modify or delete the BC Set. If the user types the name of BC Set directly in the entry box, the program will automatically create the relevant BC Set.

Type

Select the convection type as Face Convection or Edge Convection. midas FEA provides various heat transfer conditions for planes or lines of 1D/2D/3D elements.

Object

Select element(s) where the Convection Boundary will be assigned.

The user can select the Face on 2D/3D element by selecting Face Convection in the Type field.

The user can select the Edge on 1D/2D element by selecting Edge Convection in the Type field.

Mode

Add

Add new Convection Boundary.

Replace

Replace previously defined Convection Boundary.

Delete

Delete previously defined Convection Boundary.

Apply to Unassigned Objects Only

When adding new loads, this option applies loads to unassigned nodes only.

Convection Boundary

Select the Convection Coefficient Function and the Ambient Temperature Function.

Convection Coefficient Function

The Convection Coefficient Function is defined using 'Convection Coefficient Functions.' Click to prompt the Create/Modify Function dialog box.

Ambient Temperature Function
