Boundary: Beam End Release

Function

End release conditions can be applied to a beam element.  The end release condition allows either sections 'i' or 'j' of a beam element to rotate about or translate along one or more of the local axes of the beam.

Beam end release values '0-release' or '1-fixed' can only be used for the following analysis case types:

  1. Nonlinear analysis

  2. Construction stage analysis

  3. Seepage analysis (SS/Transient)

Call

<Ground Supports>

Object

Select beam elements.

Mode

Allows users to modify existing or create new beam end release conditions.

Add/Replace

Add or replace new or existing Beam End Release boundaries.

Delete

Delete existing Beam End Release boundaries.

Apply to Unassigned Objects Only

Apply conditions to nodes that have not been defined with beam end release boundaries.

End Release

Type

Select either Relative or Value to control end fixities.

Relative

Directly enter ratio which represents the percentage relative to beam length.

Value

Directly enter true magnitude of stiffness value to simulate partial or full fixities.

Fx

Release translation at the start/end of the beam pertaining to node along x-local direction.

Fy

Release translation at the start end of the beam pertaining to node along y-local direction.

Fz

Release translation at the start end of the beam pertaining to node along z-local direction.

Mx

Release rotation at the start end of the beam pertaining to node along x-local direction.

My

Release rotation at the start end of the beam pertaining to node along y-local direction.

Mz

Release rotation at the start end of the beam pertaining to node along z-local direction.

Pinned-Pinned: Activates My & Mz only for both sections 'i' and 'j'.

Pinned-Fixed:   Activates My & Mz only for section 'i'.

Fixed-Pinned:   Activates My & Mz only for section 'j'.

Fixed-Fixed :     Deactivates all constraints.
