Wall Stiffness Scale Factor

Apply scale factors to the cross-sectional properties of wall elements. In-plane shear and bending stiffness of specific wall elements may be reduced to reflect cracked sections of concrete walls.

Select a boundary group in which the Wall Stiffness Scale Factors will be included. Using analysis > Boundary Change Assignment to Load Cases/Analyses function, different Wall Stiffness Scale Factors can be assigned to different load cases.

The scale factors defined here are applied to the calculations for displacements and member forces only.  For stress calculations, original section properties are used.  However, the option for applying the Section Stiffness Scale Factors to Stress Calculations may be selected in Analysis > Main Control Data.

From the Main Menu select Model > Properties > Wall Stiffness Scale Factor.

Select Geometry > Properties > Wall Stiffness Scale Factor in the Menu tab of the Tree Menu.

Boundary Group

Boundary Group Name: Select a Boundary Group defined in Model > Group > Define Boundary Group. If a Boundary Group has not been defined, specify default.

Option

Add/Replace: Add new (shear and bending) stiffness scale factors to selected wall elements, or replace previously defined stiffness scale factors.

Delete: Delete stiffness scale factors previously assigned to specific wall elements.

Inplane Stiffness Scale Factor

Shear: Enter a scale factor for shear stiffness of selected wall elements.

Bending & Axial : Enter a scale factor for bending stiffness and axial stiffness of selected wall elements.

Note
Since shear and bending deformations are correlated by Poisson's ratio, shear deformation does not linearly vary with the shear stiffness scale factor.

If shear deformation is desired to vary linearly with the shear stiffness scale factor, it is necessary to enter zero for the Poisson's ratio of the corresponding elements.
