enerator Feature: Sweep Shape

Function

Extrude a profile (Wire, Edge) into a Face or Shell along the direction of a Guide curve (Wire, Edge).  A Wire and Edge can be extruded only into a Shell and Face respectively.  A closed Wire or Edge can be used to create a Solid using the Solid option.

Call

Geometry > Generator Feature > Sweep

<Sweep>

Select Profile

Select a profile (Wire, Edge) to be sweep-extruded.
 

Select Guide

Select a Guide curve (Wire, Edge), which will be used for a Sweep operation.
 

Sweep Mode

Select a Sweep algorithm.  The default algorithm is generally recommended.
 

Transition Mode

Modified

The selected sweep profile is moved along the guide curve without rotating at the bends of the guide curve.
Right Corner

The selected sweep profile is bent at a bend of the guide curve.
Round Corner

The selected sweep profile is rounded at a bend of the guide curve.

Name

Enter the name of the curved surface to be created.

Contact

The selected sweep profile is extruded along and in contact with the guide curve.
 

Ortho

The extruded cross section of the selected sweep profile is orthogonal to the guide curve. The cross section is rotated to become orthogonal to the guide curve.
 

Solid

This option is used to create a Solid using a closed Wire or Edge.  Using the option with an open profile will not result in an error, but an improper shape may be created.

Notes

A desired shape can be best created when the guide curve exists at the center of the sweep profile.

It is important to choose right Sweep Mode and Transition Mode in order to generate desired shape. If the resulted shape is not correct, please adjust each Mode and check it by previewing until achieving proper shape.

Due to certain characteristic of Sweep function, user may not always obtain desired shape using complex profile or guide curve. Alternatively, user can use Main Menu>Transform>Sweep-Translate which enables to copy an object profile along specified guide curve. After copying the profile several times, desired shape can be achieve by using Main Menu>Generator Features>Loft.
