Connect a link with midas Gen or Civil to import a cross-section shape, material properties, and member forces for the desired element position. The user can also export section properties and cross-section shape of a general section from GSD to mdias Gen or Civil.

midas GSD can import the following types of the sections from midas Gen and Civil: DB/User, Value, SRC, and Tapered type sections.

midas GSD provides two different methods to export section properties from GSD to midas Gen or Civil.

 

(1) Directly export the section using [Export] button.

     In this case, GSD section can be exported to midas Gen or Civil as the Value type General section.

 

(2) Export to *.sec file from Model > Export to MIDAS Section file (*.sec) menu in the main menu.

     In this case, *.sec file can be imported as the following section type:

midas Gen: Value tab General Section

midas Civil: Value tab General Section / PSC tab PSC-Value / Tapered tab General Section

                   Composite tab Composite-General in midas Civil is not supported.

[Procedure how to IMPORT the section from midas Gen or Civil]

1. Click midas Link icon to connect midas Gen or Civil.

2. Select midas program to import a section.

3. Enter the element number in the Number field and then click .

4. Select the desired load combinations and the member force positions to be imported in the Load Combination function.

5. Check the imported section in the Works Tree.

Double-click the imported section name to display the imported section in the model view. The imported section name contains the section property name, and the imported load combination name contains "load combination name_element number_part".

 

[Procedure how to EXPORT the section to midas Gen or Civil]

 

[Method 1. Directly export the section]

1. Click midas Link icon to connect midas Gen or Civil.

2. Select midas program to export a section.

3. Click button to export the current working section to midas Gen or Civil. Once the section is exported, message is displayed in the Message Window.

4. In midas Gen or Civil, the section property is automatically added as a Value type General section.

[Method 2. Export to *.sec file]

1. From the main menu, click Model > Export to MIDAS Section file (*.sec).

2. Save the *.sec file.

3. Import the *.sec file in midas Gen or Civil.

From the Main Menu select Link > midas Link.

Click midas Link in the Icon Menu.

Click icon to invoke the following dialog box. Once the link is connected, the midas Link icon is changed to .

Link With: Select a desired midas program. midas Gen or midas Civil can be selected from the combo-box.

Connect: Connect a link to the selected midas program.

Disconnect: Disconnect a link from the selected midas program.

 

Add New Section

Once the link is connected to mdias Gen or Civil, Add New Section field is changed as below.

Member: Enter the element number of midas Gen or Civil. We can also directly select the element in the model view of midas Gen or Civil.  

Export: Export the section properties and the cross-section shape of the current working section to midas Gen or Civil.   

Import: Import the section shape, material properties, member forces for the selected load combinations. Enter the desired element number directly or select the desired element in the model view of midas Gen or Civil.

Select Load Combination: Select the desired load combinations to import the member forces.

Select Part: Select the element position (Part I, Part 1/4, Part 2/4, Part 3/4, and Part J) to be  imported in the Load Combination dialog box.

Note. Importing tapered section

When the tapered section is selected, the tapered section dimension corresponding to the selected part (Part I, Part 1/4, ...etc.) will be imported in midas GSD. If the multiple parts are selected in the dialog box, each part will be imported as different sections with the corresponding member forces in midas GSD.

The dimensional variation of the tapered section is calculated by the linear interpolation at 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4 position based on the shape information at I-end and J-end.
